    1. When a planet is closest to the earth is it combust or retrograde? (10 points)
    Retrograde
    2. Explain how the astronomy shows the astrological meaning. (15 points, no more than 3 sentences).
When the planet is closest to the Earth, is appears to be slower and because it seems like we are moving faster than the planet, the planet seems to be moving backwards compared to us – thus it seems to be backing up and internalizing the energy.
    3. When a planet is furthest from the earth is it combust or retrograde?(10 points)
    Combust
    4. Explain how the astronomy shows the astrological meaning. (15 points, no more than 3 sentences).
It’s based on the degrees of the planet relative to the sun.  They are so close to the sun that their rays are burnt or lost by the heat and rays of the sun.
The “shooter-holmes” chart is of the “Aurora Colorado Shooter” James Holmes. In his Rahu / Jupiter dasa he burst into a Colorado Movie Theater and shot and killed a bunch of people.
    5. How would you assess Jupiter retrograde here? What would it affect? How do you see this planet as capable of such a heinous act? (25 points)
Jupiter retrograde in the 12th house of Pisces can indicate loss of children, deprivation of or from children, loss of wealth and issues with finding gurus or teachers.  Will have a loss of hope in life which could lead to suicide and a feeling of a loss of hope when it come to kids and teachers.  Also a strong struggle with spirituality and feeling receptive to a higher power. A high amount of apathy and tendency to escape internally possibly creating a more disassociated state of being.
Thus, being highly disassociated and prone to an internal loss of grounded hope and grasp on reality combined with extreme apathy all surrounding children and teachers, definitely points to how he could have killed the kids and teachers he felt so disillusioned by.  He had absolutely no sense of hope to grab onto.  Plus Rahu the obsession planet is there which is a cruel planet that will go for whatever he desires at any cost.  So he feels a loss of hope and doesn’t want to feel that anymore so looks for any way, violent or not, to change it to try to control his sense of his life – he feels completely out of control.
    6. How would you assess Saturn combust in the same chart? What character traits might we infer based on that placement? (25 points)
Saturn combust in the 8th house of Scorpio creates a person who feels completely underappreciated for the hard work they feel they are doing.  They feel like they can’t do any more than they have and form a strong resistance to working hard and anyone criticizing the work he’s done.  And this is in the sign of Scorpio which is the aggressive feminine waters – highly emotional, regarding his hard work.
Saturn rules his 10th and 11th house so this also effects his impact on the world and his ambition.  He feels bitter and resentful of having to work any harder to accomplish or impact anything and his emotions come out in bursts of anger that have a violent nature.  And because this is seen in the 8th house, this is how he handles obstacles – with resentment, violent outbursts.  It is also the house of death, so this also can show the suicide attempts and the extreme anger personality.  And since the Sun sits there as well, there’s a certain shame and embarrassment that happens with him when he gets criticized or feedback for the work he puts forth.  That shame is the catalyst for him to act out of vengeance.
