A retrograde planet appears to be moving backward relative to the Earth at any given time. This retrograde motion shows a tendency of the planet to “back up” in our mind and consciousness.

Saturn is retrograde almost half of the time, so his current retrograde motion is nothing new or even unusual.

Saturn has to do with the nature of our commitments and plans. We are usually half committed to our current plans and half reevaluating new ones. This comes from Saturn.

We have quite a lot of planets either debilitated or getting closer to debilitation right now. Both Mars and Jupiter are already debilitated and Venus and the sun are not far away. When a planet is debilitated it does not express its highest nature very easily. In fact, the thing that it rules in our consciousness becomes compromised and hard to fathom.

Jupiter Debilitated
Jupiter is the energy that feels like hope and inspiration. These are the things that get us through in life when we have setbacks. We have our teachings, teachers and philosophies to fall back on. These things allow us to remember the bigger picture, otherwise we get tangled up in all of the material setbacks of the world and get lost in the details. Jupiter has been debilitated for much of this year, and still is. So it is harder for us to remember our teachings and we have lost some hope.

Mars Debilitated
Mars is a planet of discipline that allows us to put into practice the things we believe in, not just talk about them or acknowledge them mentally. Mars gives us the toughness and discipline to sacrifice our happiness in the moment in order to do the right thing. When Mars is weak, rather than doing the right thing, we tend to argue with others over what the right thing is.

When Mars becomes debilitated, we become undisciplined. Rather than our actions being based on what we know is right for us in the long term (Capricorn), they become based on how we feel in the moment (Cancer). This leaves us feeling weak and overcome by emotions, rather than feeling tough and strong – which is the part of us that Mars is activating. Mars will be debilitated between now May 25, 2010. That’s a long time to have Mars weak.

Venus Debilitated
Venus is the energy within us that brings about happiness in life. We all want to enjoy life. That nature comes from Venus. When Venus is weak we simply don’t enjoy things as much. We don’t appreciate them as much, and we don’t feel as appreciated ourselves. That’s often the most difficult thing to swallow when Venus is weak.

Be careful in your relationships especially now, with not feeling appreciated. There may be a high sensitivity to that, especially with Venus joined Saturn, compounding this lack of appreciation with a lack of confidence. In fact, this tendency may only increase as the Sun also becomes debilitated on October 17.

Mercury to the Rescue
However, in general, the stellium of planets in Virgo (Mercury, Venus and Saturn) are being strongly supported by an exalted Mercury, the ruler of the sign. And in fact, these three friendly planets make for a very powerful Raja Yoga. So, even though we may not be feeling so good, this is a great time to get a lot of work done – especially detail oriented, artistic, technical type of work.

Between now and November 2 is a great time to deepen your commitment to your creative projects and bring them to fruition. If you’ve been kicking around ideas that have to do with writing projects, online publishing, starting a blog, revamping / rebranding your business, etc. – you won’t find a better time to do it for quite a while.

We can sit around feeling disrespected and without hope or we can jump into the creative power of the time. Between now and November 2 that means working on something that we’re passionate about, that we believe in. Make a commitment to bringing some sort of beauty into the world.

There will be a lot of assistance with Mercury exalted, or in an exchange with Venus, between now and November 2.

Venus will be debilitated for the next couple of weeks and she will be joined Mars. There is a high possibility of arguing and bickering with people. Friends and acquaintances who don’t understand astrology may suddenly show themselves and present a challenge to your patience and capacity.

Do your best with this. It will be up very hard to compromise and remember the silver lining for the next couple of weeks.

Venus is debilitated in Virgo because it is where we notice all the details and try to strengthen and protect them. Yet, Venus is the energy in life that makes us appreciate things as they are. A constructive use of Venus in Virgo is to try to beautify and perfect creative projects and things you are looking to improve in your life. Virgo is a Tamasic sign — a protective sign. It is the area of life where we protect ourselves by recognizing the dangerous and important details.

The silver lining is that Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, is also here. This shows that a higher promise is possible. Meaning, if we remain flexible and not get angry we can make a lot of progress in this area of life for the next few weeks. By perfecting and beautifying the details and focusing on things we what to improve with enthusiasm.

But, the nature of Mars could still be very destructive. We may lash out impulsively – confuse important details because of anger – accuse people of things harshly without getting all the facts. These things are all related to Mars.

The people who are most susceptible to this type of acting out are those who have a weak Mars in their birth chart or Mars affecting important planets like the moon, Mercury or Venus natally. If you have these markers in your chart natally, be on the lookout. Especially if you’re not happy with your life right now – feeling lonely – don’t feel powerful in your job, etc.

The tendency to look for trouble and create enemies is very high for the next few weeks. But we also may decide to get others out of our life who are no longer serving our path.
