Sagittarius 2009 Cycle and You

This is an overview of the material covered in my weekly radio show. Hear more in depth explanations of Jupiter, Sagittarius and the indicators of each sign at:
http://astrologyradioshow.com In general I would say the big winners are the Leos this month and they have earned it. The 5th from the 5th rule applies. They are the fifth sign and the Sun is in the 5th from it. Plus, the Sun is the ruler of Leo and mercury is also there.. a very beneficial planet for the big cats. Enjoy it kitties, the Saturn season is right around the corner and Mars is about to go retrograde!

The New Moon in Sidereal Sagittarius occurred on December 16, 2009. Each month the Sun and Moon come together and begin a cycle of growth relative to the astrology sign lesson indicated.

This cycle last 30 days and compels us to grow, as the Sun wants to illuminate the truth and Moon to give us the feeling and connection to that lesson.

Each sign will be compelled to grow in different ways based on the house position of Sagittarius. Use the guide below to find your Ascendant (daily activity and identity) and your Moon sign (feeling and psychology) for the next month, relative to this cycle.

Full Moon in Taurus – 2009 Scorpio Cycle

Full Moon in Taurus – 2009 Scorpio Cycle

The full moon in Taurus will occur shortly before midnight on December 1 this year. Sometimes astrologers get a little wacky around the full moon, and start speaking as if it’s the “beginning” of a cycle, projecting the next month forward from the full moon. I know the full moon is pretty and captures our imagination more than the new moon, which we can’t even see, but this is a mistake. I know astrology is not seen as Scientific in the West and it seems like everything can be a matter of opinion, but astronomical realities are what they are.

The full moon is the halfway point of the new moon cycle. It shows a releasing, not a growing period. You can relate the monthly moon cycle (commencing from the new moon, when it’s dark) to a lifetime. It is born, grows, reaches its peak power and vitality. From there it wanes and dies so that the next cycle can be born.

When we understand astrology in a metaphysical way, this is exactly what happens, 12 times per year. The truth is, each person is a culmination of all 12 astrology signs (and all the planets, etc.) The obsession with “your sign”, etc. is one of the things an astrologer tries to balance when they do an astrology reading. Stated more simply, we all have the energy of all 12 signs falling somewhere in our consciousness. Our obsessions and preferences and identity through the ego is what we see in the astrology chart by the planets, houses and signs.

In Vedic energetics each sign is a different limb of the Kala purusha. Each month a certain part of that limb and comes to life. In medical astrology signs are well understood to rule different parts of the body. Scorpio rules the genitals, the most vulnerable and exposed part of who we are.

The fear of being naked and exploited is the deeper fear of Scorpio.

Midlife Crisis
This full moon in Taurus is the halfway point, the midlife, of the Scorpio 2009 cycle. Fifteen days ago, the sun and moon were together in Scorpio. The moon was dark. From that darkness the Scorpio lesson of 2009 was born. When Sun and Moon (spirit and mind) meet at that same point, the lifecycle begins – just like when sperm and egg meet.

So, the most psychologically vitalized part of any cycle is the full moon, as the moon represents our psychology and the need to balance our own identity (Sun) with our connection to others. The Scorpio cycle each year is a time when we look to strengthen our vulnerabilities and dig deeply into our own psychological weaknesses. But if we are not careful, we also do battle with others over their weaknesses and the perceived insults and hurts that we feel around them.

Scorpio is easily the most emotionally restless of the astrology signs and we all have it somewhere within us, whether we have planets in that sign or not. Providing contrast to that emotional restlessness and turmoil is the stability of Taurus – the most solid and stable of the astrology signs.

At the halfway point in the Scorpio cycle we connect with stability, structure and the need to balance the constants emotional thrill and excitement seen in Scorpio. Also, as being ruled by Mars, Scorpio can be numb (tamasic) to the pain they cause themselves and others as they take on life’s challenges.

Taurus is where we enjoy what we have, rather than worry about losing it. It is where we grow and protect those things we have and love, rather than analyze them or look for their flaws and weaknesses. As being ruled by Venus, Taurus is sensitive and aware of the feelings of others, not destroying things and being careful. Taurus is where the moon is exalted and Scorpio is where the moon is debilitated.

The Next Two Weeks
This full moon is mainly supported by a Jupiter trinal aspect – and an opposition from Venus in Scorpio.

Traditional teachings and teachers are able to support us, but there may be a tendency toward dogmatism and looking to the past for solutions rather than looking toward the future. Also, it may be hard to stay hopeful right now with this debilitated Jupiter aspected by a debilitated Mars (the ruler of Scorpio).

Venus, the ruler of Taurus, is in the Nakshatra Anuradha which is related to friendship and reaching out to our friends. Underneath it all, Scorpio is a sign that places a lot of importance on friendship and loyalty. Scorpio natives will work hard on a friendship with you, but you usually have to be willing to do battle with them. Divine friendship is a key to releasing the fears of the Scorpio cycle.

As was said, each of us is a culmination of all 12 astrology signs. We each have Scorpio somewhere within us. The loyal and protective friend is a great place for the Scorpio energy in each of us to take wing. A friend is genuinely concerned about our well-being. A friend has more detachment than a lover or an intimate other would have. “God as the Divine Friend” is the key to Venus’ Nakshatra Deity, called “Mitra”.

Think of your higher self as the friend you can call anytime of the day or night. That friend would never judge you or turn you down and they would lend a sympathetic ear to all your troubles. They would be concerned with providing comfort and calming you down in the midst of some panic or imagined terror. Of course, your friends and (most importantly) you BEING A FRIEND – to others is also key.

This is a very powerful lesson of this full moon – the beginning of the waning phase of the Scorpio cycle. This waning phase – for the next two weeks – shows the need to let go of negative Scorpio traits in order to master its full creative potential.

From a place of comfort, and structure (Taurus) the imagined fears of Scorpio can release, and these virtuous qualities of Scorpio can be realized: the courage and growth of the spiritual warrior – the loyal friend you can call any hour of the night – the dark Knight defending the highest truth.

The next two weeks, as the Taurus Full Moon wanes and the Scorpio cycle releases, traditional teachings and teachers may help, but be careful of dogma and fears of the old paradigm interrupting the work of the moment.

Sun Moves into Scorpio on November 15

Sun Moves into Scorpio on November 15 - and shortly after the Sun and moon consummate the 2009 Scorpio cycle. As always, the Scorpio cycle will be a time of reflection and inner reckoning.

Scorpio is the feminine (internal/reflective) nature of Mars. The nature is to strengthen our insecurities and fears, those things that are making us emotionally weak.. or at least the things we perceive to be making us weak. This is the difficulty of Scorpio. When we perceive our threats to be external we may act out against them.

First, The Bad News
Given the nature of Scorpio to be reflective and internal and related to the emotions, there is also a possibility of casting ourselves in the “victim role”. Then given the nature of Mars to protect and defend, we may look to vanquish those that have victimized us, of course justified because they “had it coming to them” and the may “do it others”. Mars is a very protective influence. I have seen so many negative Scorpio types that justify aggression with the explanation that “You did this to me and I am fighting with you so you don’t do it to others”.

Aggressor and victim roles get instantly juxtaposed with the negative Scorpio model. This is the vicious cycle of victim/aggressor that Scorpio needs to be careful of. I am speaking archetypically, not specifically. So, if you are reading this and have a few planets in Scorpio I am not necessarily talking about you — so calm down!

:)

Now, The Good News
When evolved, Scorpio looks within to the true source of weakness, our emotional fears – then works hard to strengthen the source by taking on those emotional challenges. They will often make enormous
emotional progress in life by going into the most emotionally risky situations. They are fiercely loyal and will go to the mat with you – willin got get into complicated and scary emotional situations that make others flee. But given the nature of Mars to be daring and “living on the edge” Scorpio needs to be careful not to mistake emotional intensity and emotional drama for “growth”. They are different. We don’t actually grow until we calm down.

As with all sign ruled by cruel planets, there is often the expectation that life is going to be hard, and even when it is not – Scorpio make create complications and intensity, so they can handle it and overcome the problem and fight the battle (the nature of mars).

Many times, the most profound depth of truth and meaning from astrology can be done by reducing the the signs to their rudimentary components.

Ruling planet – Mars – strengthening us by fighting battles and facing difficulties
Element – Water – feelings, emotions and intuition.
Direction – Internal and reflective
Modality – fixed – resistant, stubborn, organized, solid.

Specifics and A Few Tooks to Work With

The exact new moon cycle consummates at 11:13 AM pacific time on Monday, November 16, 2009. Mercury will join this New Moon/Sun in Scorpio and there is an exact (applying) aspect from Saturn in Virgo also here..especially on Mercury. Both virgo and Scorpio are Tamasic, oriented toward removing trouble. Mercury is about self expression and communication. When he is in a feminine sign it supports writing.

Journaling and all sorts of writing could be very transformative this month. Mercury is the voice in your head that is telling you the story of your life. Those thoughts create the reality, so be careful with the darker side this month and romanticizing the darkness through the prose in your head.

Given that the north node is not in Sagittarius, the second house from the Sun/Moon conjunction – speaking may be a little more complicated and confusing. B e careful speaking when you are too emotional.

The Balancing point of this cycle occurs on the Full Moon in Taurus on December 1, 2009.

8 Foolproof Ways to Align With The Times

photo_6617_20090531The Sun, Jupiter and mars are all debilitated using the Sidereal Zodiac, the one in Vedic astrology. This means the planets responsible for getting things done in spite of how we feel, moving forward with things, etc are not so powerful now. Not just one of them,, but all three!!

This is a rare occurrence for sure. So what can we do about it?

1. Try to eat a little less as your digestive fire may be low. This can lead to sluggishness. Maybe eat more meals but less quantity. Stop eating before your belly is full. (actually this is a good practice all the time – but especially now)

2. Ponder going on a juice fast or liquid diet for a few days or even longer. (Similar to above)

3. Stay disciplined. This one is hard as the masculine planets are the ones that bring discipline. Do not ask yourself whether or not you want to wake up early and do your meditation practices, etc. – just do it. You don’t vacillate about brushing your teeth or taking a shower.. (or do you?) – same here.

4. Take a nice, brisk walk everyday. Make it a walking meditation by introducing a mantra or positive affirmation as you walk – timed to the rhythm of your breath and your steps.

5. Study uplifting teachings and philosophies. Engage your mind on the highest level. The universe is full of hope possibility.

6. Do some deep breathing exercises. This can be a part of your walking meditation or separate. But deep breathing is the key to a deep life.

7. Create something of beauty. The powerful planets are the Mercury / Venus exchange and that is all about creativity. After you feel more energized and clear you can be more creative.

8. Stop whining. Stay out of your head and all of the over emotional analysis.

A good way to integrate these practices is to get up a little earlier than usual – prepare a light “juiced” breakfast ( typically, I juice green leaves and an apple) – also have some tea. Sit down for a meditation ritual of deep breathing, reciting mantras and perhaps reading and contemplation of inspiring ideas.

If you would like some help with it, I am still doing morning meditations everyday at 615 AM PST. I turn on the camera to share my practice with anyone who wants to come. http://panetarymantras.info

If you follow these steps either literally or in principle – there can be enormous secrets revealed about the universal nature of these energies in you.

Often when the masculine planets are strong they engage us in external activity. Now that they are weaker this is not so easy to come by – but their / our eternal nature is never wavering. But this deeper nature must be approached through introspection.

This is what Indian astrology refers to with principles such as “Neecha Banga Raja Yoga” – this higher possibility.

This will begin to shift on November 2 when Venus joins the Sun in Libra, but we will not be feeling totally out of the “physically drained feeling” until November 16 when the Sun enters Scorpio.

Best wishes,
Sam (Sadasiva)

Tuesday and Wednesday

The Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Venus are all in their signs of debilitation today and tomorrow.

However, Mars and the Moon are exchanging signs which show they will work together to produce good results (based on what they rule for you). Their association is especially good for wealth. So, the next couple of days are good for business activities, you just need to be careful NOT to get too hooked into everyone’s emotions or to put any emotional pressure on people.

Also, Jupiter is aspecting an exalted Mercury for the next two days – making for gains in communication, teaching and connecting your creations with the bigger picture.

But we must pay attention to the debilitation. Even if we are “feeling fine”, others may not be. When planets are debilitated their energies are not coming through us with power and may come out in ways that we later regret.

Here is an example of what I mean.

The Sun gives confidence, Venus gives respect, Mars gives discipline, Jupiter gives hope, The Moon gives peace and connection. Not only do they give these things, they WANT them.

So, a scenario might develop like this:
Someone says something you don’t like (gee, imagine that) you feel disrespected (Db Venus), since you are lacking a little confidence and feeling a little sluggish as it is (Db Sun) it feels especially hurtful. Usually, little trifles like this are no big deal, you can rise above them (Db Jupiter) – but this really hurts because you really like this person, like family (Db Moon) and they should not say those things, so you are going to tell them what they did wrong – screw the consequences. (Db Mars, impulse – right/wrong thinking).

Once this many planets gets weak there can be a domino effect. At any point in that chain a powerful planet could save it,, but this many – whew! – it gets harder to do it.

But Mercury is strong.. our saving grace. Saturn is also strong. Mercury gives the ability to laugh at it all, if we can remember. Heavy emotions make it hard to see the humor.

Saturn gives sensitivity to others suffering – silence and a quiet mind. So, remembering that others are suffering is also good. If that sensitivity does not come, Saturn also rules death and Hell. So, you can take quiet solace knowing that one day all the bastards will be rotting in hell.

Sun Soon Debilitated

Last week I wrote of having three debilitated planets in the sky, and what to do about it. Well, we’re about to have four debilitated planets in a couple of days, Friday 10/16/2009 to be exact. And those planets will be debilitated for quite a while, until early November.

We must rely on the same formula as I said last week, riding on the back of that powerful Mercury will be important. Powerful Mercury traits include sense of humor, flexibility, attention to detail – did I mention a sense of humor?

I will be doing my share each morning in support of our planets and world by offering a 6:15 a.m. Pacific morning meditation and mantra session which you can participate in on the Internet.

Planetary Mantras Info:
http://planetarymantras.info

Each morning I will say several mantras, including the nine planet mantras with a special emphasis on the planetary ruler of the day.

By the way, as an astrologer I hear over and over again “what can I do about my bad karma” (that’s not what I call it by the way). Well, the mantras I am saying every day are the prescribed remedy for overcoming difficult planetary karma. So, are you going to do the work or not?

Saying the Navagraha Stotram (nine planet mantras) each day balances all difficult planetary effects, allowing their grace to come through you with much more ease and much less struggle and ego.
