Westerners like “logic and observable events,’ but when discussing other Planets and their effects or the deeper psychological understanding possible through Astrology as a Science of divination and prediction, that is where most people lose faith.

   
Through Astrology we see which of our energies are stronger and weaker, as shown by the Planets. The chart below shows the highest lesson and the lowest expression of each of the 7 main Planets in Vedic Astrology as well as the North and South Nodes.

The Sun – (Surya) Rules LEO - A Sattvic Planet - The Sun is the primary indicator of Pitta Dosha in the chart. As the Sun is the light of the soul, giving the consistency of purpose to transform one’s being, his overlord is lord Shiva.

Whatever is influencing him will determine how he uses his skills and how he will behave. When aligned with Mars for instance he can be turned into a liar and a cheat. In such a situation he can be the smooth talking used car salesman, one who will rip you off and not feel too bad afterwards. Not because he is such a terrible guy, per se, but due to an underdeveloped, childish view of the world that doesn’t think before it acts. 

Rahu creates high levels of stress and worry over the things he is trying to accomplish. In this way he is  like Saturn. He casts a shadow over our perceptions and consciousness. Many of the deepest and hardest lessons to learn in life are associated with Rahu because he distorts the mind and its perceptions. 

Through Astrology we gain insight into our deep-seated mental patterns and the karmas they cause. These patterns (samsaras) show the lessons our soul is trying to learn.
